The setup

One bar is 1 – 2 – 3.

The 3 means three beats in each bar. The 4 tells you that a quarter note gets one beat. Here, 60 BPM means 60 quarter-note beats per minute.

A short practice loop

Listen first.
Then add one thing.

Use the preset above, or set any metronome to 60 BPM, 3 beats per bar, quarter notes. Keep the first beat accented. Leave the Mossbeat tab visible and your screen awake while it plays.

  1. Count four bars

Start the click. Say 1, 2, 3 four times. Listen for the brighter first click each time; let all three beats take the same amount of time.

    12 clicks · 12 seconds

  2. Tap four bars

Keep counting and add a gentle tap on each beat. If you lose your place, pause, listen for the next accented click, and begin again on 1.

    Another 12 clicks · 12 seconds

  3. Play one small passage

Choose a short phrase in 3/4 that you already know. Play for four bars, or repeat a shorter phrase to fill them. Follow its written rhythm: a note does not need to happen on every click.

Four bars · then press Stop

Sixty is a starting point, not a target you have to meet. If the phrase feels crowded, stop and try a smaller section or a slower setting. Write down what you want to try next.

A couple of useful details

Does every click mean I should play a note?

No. In this setup each click marks one quarter-note beat. Your phrase may contain rests, notes that last several beats, or more than one note between clicks. Keep the pulse even while following the phrase’s rhythm.

What if my music says 6/8?

This guide is for 3/4 with the quarter note as the beat. A 6/8 passage is often felt in two groups of three eighth notes, so this 3/4 preset is not an automatic substitute. Check the note value next to your music’s tempo marking.
